An interesting (to me) estate sale.

Re: An interesting (to me) estate sale.

Tomlinson Holman made some notable design contributions to consumer audio (APT audio etc). That said i recall some nonsense when Peavey tried to get amps THX approved, for movie installs. Some of their restrictions were not strictly audio performance related, but favored a small handful of manufacturers (like where volume controls were located, direction of air flow, etc). Theater owners were already buying and using Peavey amps, but they wanted to be able to say they were THX approved. I don't recall how this was ever resolved, if it was.

I attended the bankruptcy auction for Mark Levinson's consumer audio business back in the early '80s. I scored two Sound Technology distortion analyzers during the auction bidding, then lost them again later when a successor company made an entirety bid for the whole shebang. That's life in the bankruptcy biddness.

Lots of goodies there, but really, Alesis 3630 ?
Must have used it to get the right angle on one of those projectors.

I said interesting, not compelling. (Speaking of compelling, I didn't see any compellors.)

We had similar issues when submitting a Servodrive subwoofer back in twenty odd years ago. They were very impressed with the low distorion, high output, and extensionn of the product, but couldn't get past the small amount of mechanical noise heard at low levels-which never has been an issue when in use.
