Re: Anyone recognize this norteno band from mexico?
Did they forget to raise the truss?
You had to get me started on that...
Just attribute it to an independent spanish speaking lighting guy that the spanish speaking promoter brought in, and a major language barrier. When they set up, they told me it would "go high", turns out we had different ideas of high. The movers were right at my face height when standing on stage. Granted all the people in the lighting company were significantly shorter.
Because this venue is a restaurant by Maryland's standards, it has optical smoke detectors. When I started i put a No Fog/No Haze policy in effect. Apparently, on a previous DJ/Dance show with the same promoter that I wasn't there for, the same lighting guys played ignorant due to language and had the fire alarms going off all night long. Funny, when they wanted something from me, we understood each other perfectly, when I wanted something from them...
Also, the promoter provided a drum kit. The heads were backwards on the kick drum, and one of the spikes was replaced with an old drum stick. That was one of its better features.
Still the band was extremely professional, and played great. Sound check was simple. Insert all sorts of jokes here, but the accordion was huge, and the only mix problem I really had was deciding on how much vocal verb/delay i wanted because i didn't understand the vocal content. The band was good enough that I would like to track them down and find out more about them.
