I have at&t (for now) for home internet access. I have an intermittent connection problem. I had to do a password reset for my account and when I did I found that they had used my email password for EVERYTHING including the account password. When I went to check my home email for the new password I found that my password has now been set to the same temporary password as my account. THEY LOCKED ME OUT OF MY ACCOUNT COMPLETELY AND THE F-ING PHONE SYSTEM CAN'T SEEM TO TO CONNECT ME TO A REAL PERSON. This horribly run company is getting no more money from me.

This blew my mind in terms of sheer stupidity.

I feel your pain. Went through the same thing trying to set up passwords last week. To top it all off, no matter how many times I called the number on my DSL bill, the call was routed to the ATT Wireless support number.

Once you DO get through to a person, they will undoubtedly be the WRONG person! It took me 3 people via 2 separate phone calls to finally get the right one. On the plus side, everyone I talked to was as helpful as possible, and all were personable, friendly and apologized for not having the ability to help.

Re: At&t have brainless programmers

This reminds of the catch 22 I encountered several years back when trying to get a line related DSL issue corrected...

Lines problems are handled locally, while DSL issues are handled, in bangalore... Their customer service system never anticipated the need to locally deal with a DSL issue and had no way for Duleep to route the caller (me) back to Bubba in MS.

I literally had to lie to the customer service decision tree and tell them that my phone line, that I was talking to them over, was compromised. Bubba told me it would cost me if they didn't find a problem, but of course they did and fixed where the squirrels were chewing on my phone wires.

But it was frustrating to get taken seriously, and resolve their lines problem.

Note: their automatic lines testing did not have the resolution to detect a break so close to my service drop that looks like similar open circuit...

Damn squirrels, rats with bushy tails.

At my house they now come in 3 different colors - Trendy Albino, Traditional Grey, and Midnight Black (no I don't live too close to a nuke plant).

Our DSL service is via Qworst, er, I mean Qwest. I've had pretty good luck on the tech support and installation side, but literally every change order I have submitted over the last 5 years or so has been screwed up by the order entry folks. The good news is they seem willing to throw money at my unhappiness - they've given me several discounts to compensate for issues.
