The 6' cable linking the wedges is not designed as a mechanical stop to limit how far apart you can spread the wedges. PLEASE stop grabbing the monitor and pulling with full force until your practically rip the connector out of the cabinet. If you need the wedges further apart, we will gladly supply a longer cable AND even move the boxes for you. Thanks!

Seriously this happens way too often.

The wedges are also not "ego stands".

Stuff like that irritates me sometimes, also. I guess the only thing to do is to just put a longer cable there by default or be more proactive and jump in there when they start moving the wedge.


It sometimes astounds me how some musiciansconsider the PA gear to just be "something that's just there" and paid for by someone remote and anonoumus for anyone to use - like benches in a park or something. That stuff takes hard- earned cash to buy and days and days in the shop to plan out and install in racks, label, solder, etc. And someone most certainly owns is!

I recently had a club gig where my company provided what I consider to be a nice PA: 12-box PA-system, 10 box monitor-system with drumfill, PM1D mixer, good cables, stands and mics from the "A-box" (nice mics like EV RE20, AT AE2500, Shure SM7, etc). After soundcheck one of the musos asks me: "So do you think it's safe to leave my pedalboard behind or should we pack up anything valuable?". I just pointed at the stage in one big sweeping motion and asked him "So, what do you think?"...

I used to have a pair of monitors (back in the 80's)that were supposidly custom built for Roberta Flack. They were HUGE. They had 24 6" full range drivers in each one on 3 faces (8 each face). VERY Heavy-probably 200lbs or more- each. Expanded steel for the grill and very sturdy.

I had a 12 ga cable coming out of each one(with a connector on the end)-No connector on the cabinet-because that could ge broken off if stepped on.

I used them mainly for my punk rock front monitors.

They could jump/dive/step/crawl or whatever on them and not damage them. Liquids were the only thing I was concerned about.

Sounded like crap-but got loud and you couldn't tear them up. I never worried about them.

The longer cable would be the simple solution, but for most applications the 6' cable is more than ample to link the wedges when they are in their optimal position. The 6' cable also keeps the downstage edge looking cleaner and free of cable clutter. I really have no problem with moving the monitors around to a place they are comfortable with, but its like they are oblivious to the fact that there is a limited length of cable between the monitors. I've seen it happen so many times, and not just with my systems. I feel like its directly equivalent to if the guitar players amp was pointed at FOH and I took it upon myself to just grab the amp and pull it across stage until the cable ripped out of it. It's just carelessness.

Oh, I hear you my friend :)

I'd love to see a tech grab a pedalboard and yank at it to move the guitar stack by the cable someday :lol:

They are if they're well built ;) I had Rob Zombie using my SRM450 "wedges" as foot rests and ego stands for an event once. I don't know how he didn't fall off of them as they don't make a very stable surface. Microwedges would work pretty well though.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with a touch of OCD about wires. Unfortunately most people think wires are like some kind of steel cable that's made to be yanked on. Yes I hate it when boneheads do dumb things to gear. Hear's a rant from the other side of the fence that I've spent more time in than the PA side. Why is it that every time I set my guitar rig up some sound company type is laying a mic cord across my guitar cord so I have to come out and undo it in order to be able to walk around?! Whenever I run last minute mic wires I run them under the guitar cables.

Ha, I'll have to come and mix for you. I usually very consciously make sure I run the mic cables under the guitar cables.
