Hi Folks,

Sorry that I am writing that in Pro thread, but I need REALLY good interface:

- at least 96x24
- 2-4 inputs will be enough
- no FireWire (USB or Thunderbolt)
- better to have tube pre
- rack mountable will be just fine

Price - up to $3k

Thank you!

I do not know of many or any high quality interfaces with tube preamps built in. I would recommend, if that is really important, buy a couple nice tube preamps / channel strips and feed your interface with it. I personally really like Roland Octacapture interface. If you want something nicer you could look at Universal Audio stuff. They have nice plugins to emulate tube preamps as well.

What are you trying to accomplish with this device?

Thank you Nathan,

It is for some folk instruments recording with high dynamic range and low noise....

Yep, I found that some channel strips have ADC, so it will be more than enough

In this case, I'd suggest avoiding a tube stage while tracking, and adding in whatever tube sound you want after the fact. Tube preamps tend to have higher self-noise figures than their solid-state brethren

I would look at the Universal Audio Apollo 8 Duo or Quad and their associated plugins. They have nice UAD tube preamp, tube compression, etc plugins that are somewhat expensive but sound good.

Thank you Nathan, looks good.

BTW, one more question, does somebody use Avid S3 as an interface? Are internal pre's same good like in the remote rack?

I have tried many interfaces in my Life. At the end you have to go and buy RME. 3K on RME will buy you a Fireface UFX.
Signal to noise is amazing, Preamps are very clean and the most important thing. The drivers just work. These things are bullet proof!
