I have an Audix Om5 that seems to have gone south on me. It just doesn't sound right or how it did before. They are by nature thin in the bottom but now it has no warmth at all now. Sounds really thin and midrange heavy.
Anyone else had this issue?
If I send it back to Audix for repair will it will it be repaired in a reasonable amount of time or will I be better off just to toss it?

It has had an easy life so I am puzzled as to its failure.

Thanks;

Re: Audix 0m5 issue ?

I have always had great service from Audix, their repair policy is one reason why I continue to purchase their products. IIRC the cost to repair an OM5 is $45. I have had a few OM series mics get damaged, in some cases they shipped me a brand new mic. Matt

Re: Audix 0m5 issue ?

Thanks Tim and Matthew;

I took the screen off and without a doubt the mic has had a few errr. "Wet" singers. More than I would have thought so yes I'm going to send it back. After having it for 3/4 years to have it fixed for what amounts to $12 dollars a year or so its well worth it.
I'm posting a photo of the Om5 and a pretty much new Om3. Its easy to see which is the Om5.

Thanks again;

I've also had great service from them. My d6 has died twice over the years. Both times they fixed for it free and covered shipping back to me. This was after it was out of warranty. Granted it would have been nice had the mic not died twice during a show...but at least they took care of it.

Wet singers, do you clean your mics after every gig? Its not Audix's fault. Interesting your using it on vocals

Clean my mic after every gig? Could you explain this in detail? What do I have to clean? It was not the foam inside the ball that was plugged. I wouldn't think at 3am after a long gig I would have to unscew the ball and wipe the metal screen off on 4/6 microphones every night. Is that normal?
I wouldn't want to clean the metal screen inside a lot because sooner or later lint would build up inside the screen on it no matter what cloth was used to clean it. I have some microphones that are 25+ years old that have been used "much" more with zero problems. I didn't state it was Audix that was at fault. Just showing what I found in case someone else had the same issue.
