For those that are interested I just finished testing the iPad "Auria DAW app with the X32.
Auria will will record 24 tacks at a time, for a total of 48 tracks,at resolution of 44.1k/24bit, you can mix "in the box" or output tracks to 24 inputs of the x32, and mix there.
The app also has audio editing and automation.
Audio files can be exported to a computer for use in another DAW.
You will need the Apple camera connection kit (this gives the iPad a USB interface), and a powered USB hub for it all to work.
For those who have a iPad already, and don't wish to carry a computer to the show this may prove a worthy setup.
This will work with iPad 1 (track count drops) iPad 2 or better recommended for 48 tracks.

No, 24 tacks at once but you can have up to 48 traks out, don't know is this will be expanded.

Lloyd,
I think this app is pretty nice. It is quite a full featured portable recorder. It seemed a little fussy, but I haven't used it extensively. I used a gen 2 iPad . I made a quick video if anyone is interested in seeing some of the settings etc. The ability to use Dropbox helps with the limited storage on your iPad, and you MUST shut down all other apps.

Glad to see some other folks are taking a look> Just a quick note in the video Ken did, only 16 tracks were routed to the X32, I was able to route 24 in/out, (running on a Ipad 3)
Latency in Auria settings should not have to be that high if you are using the X32 for eq/compression/efx.
If you are mixing in Auria with lots of eq/efx, you will need higher latency settings

Used Auria and the X32 for a session as a experiment.
24 tracks recorded at once without a hitch.
Transfered tracks from iPad to StudioOne Pro for further editing/mixing.
Sure beats dragging around a desktop or laptop

Lloyd,

how to setup Auria and the X32 to output 24 tracks from Auria to 24 inputs of the X32 ???

I tried this today without success, because the output matrix of the Auria app does not allow this.

With 24 bits at 48 kHz you would have approx. 150 KByte data per track and second when storing it to a PCM file format like .WAV. This means that per minute and track you need approx. 9 MByte.

Re: Auria iPad recording app works with x32

I see on Auria's site that it can do 48 tracks on playback? Could have potential for virtual soundcheck as well. Can anyone confirm it will do more than 24 outputs?

Re: Auria iPad recording app works with x32

Wait, why do you need a powered hub for this to work?
the ipad doesn't follow the usb specifications in full. Due to this the ipad incorrectly identifies the x32 as needing power from the ipad when it doesn't.

I haven't tried this, but it may be possible to cut the 5-volt line in the usb cable to trick the ipad. This depends upon how the ipad treats the usb specs.

Re: Auria iPad recording app works with x32

I noticed when I checked out my new x32-rack usb card that the flyback capacitor wasn't there.

A quick check revealed this to be true. Since this capacitor is responsible for us needing a powered hub due to the ipad not following the usb specifications I'm happy to tell that the new usb card therfor doesn't need a powered hub!

Just connect your x32-rack directly to your iphone/ipad and enjoy the ride.

Re: Auria iPad recording app works with x32

Sorry to revive a long dead thread, but I'm hoping someone has figured out how to do a virtual soundcheck using Auria and the X32. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to route the audio out of Auria so that channel 1 in Auria goes to channel 1 on the X32. In the output settings there is only an option to route the subgroups, and there are only 8 of them. Hopefully someone can help me out as this would be a very cool addition to the old "toolbox".
