Re: Baby Presonus

Don't get me wrong, I love the 01v96.  I've got two of them!  It's not a features thing for me, but rather an ease of use issue.

My main complaint is that the user interface is overly complex for many users, which prevents widespread adoption.  For example,  many production companies only implement digital at the higher end (Ie M7 and up, maybe LS9), while the smaller stuff is still done by analogue mixers.  This is true of installs as well.  The result is that many of the events which are well suited to the 01v96 end up requiring something else because not everyone knows how to use them thanks to their relative rarity out in the wild.  This requires that I keep a Mix Wiz and Crest XRM and all the associated outboard, and even occasionally that I cross-rent a larger analogue mixer.  Convergence of analogue and digital are inevitable, but the interface will have to be friendlier.   Yes, the 'real' pro's often know how to use them, as do many guys with backgrounds on the various Yamaha stuff (02r, 03d, etc).  I still think there is room for progress in the $2500 digital mixer market though.  Behringer obviously thinks so as well, otherwise they wouldn't be cornering the market.  I guess we'll see what the future holds...
