Re: behringer uca222 Clint, this is basically a recording issue, but as you were polite we might be able to help you out a little. Having the speakers (playback) mute when recording can be a good thing. I like and recommend this product to mobile DJ,s because its easy to install, requires no drivers, and generally works flawlessly for mobile DJ's. I have dabbled with Audacity in the past but have moved on to more advanced recording software. My best guess at this time is that your biggest limitation is the processing power of your computer. At present my laptop is running a Lexicon Omega which works great with 64 bit Win 7. for Live show break playback and stereo recording the M-audio mobile pre works reliably, requires no extra power, has just enough features to do the job and no more... but the headphone amp isn't very loud. Most of these interfaces, if you buy them new, come with more advanced software then Audacity, however it usually a 'lite' version to entice you to upgrade to the 'full' version. The tricky part of these software packages is sometimes they look for an ASIO driver that isnt there or doesn't work. If this seems to be the case search for 'ASIO4ALL'. You then set the software to look for ASIO4ALL to enable all the features. In my case a couple of thinge in Adobe Audition didn't work until i did this. The problem hasn't appeared with WIN 7 / AA 3. to upgrade from Audacity for about $50 try Goldwave GoldWave - Audio Editor, Recorder, Converter, Restoration, & Analysis Software. It's pretty easy to use/learn.
