I have been using bing for the last couple weeks just to mix it up. Search results vary greatly from google. It appears Google is superior. Is there a 3rd party search engine. I like the idea of using something a little less mainstream.

Re: bing vs google

Back in the day there were all kinds of search engines. Infoseek, Alta Vista, Excite, Lycos, Web Crawler, AOL, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, Magellan. My favorites were Infoseek and Alta Vista. But they all sucked big fat donkey balls compared to Google. For the record, I've never used Bing, and never will.

Re: bing vs google

Google Verbatim seems to be reasonable. The others (including Google's standard offering) are all virtually useless for finding anything except mainstream dribble, if you're able to find that among all the SEO spam.

FWIW, I've found Bing to be marginally less bad than Google's standard search, although that appears to be changing.

Of the various older names,
Yahoo Search is Bing.
Altavista is Yahoo.
Lycos is still around
Dogpile is still around
Infoseek is now Go, which is Yahoo search
Magellan is dead, and is now Excite
HotBot is now Lycos
Excite is still around
Ask Jeeves is now Ask, which is still active.
