Re: Breaking News

Update from MS.. it hasn't rained here today..... yet. :-)

Wish we could send some rain to the midwest... and/or stop putting so much corn into our gas tanks... going to be an interesting fall for corn prices.

The only problem here is that the lake levels still are way too low..We need several days of steady rain, not afternoon thundershowers.

Re: Breaking News

I read that several ports on the MS river had to have their channels dredged out deeper or close, and barge traffic is affected.

Like I said this will probably hit us in higher food prices in a few months (mostly wiped out summer corn crop).

Re: Breaking News

Yup, rain falls somewhere...

Looking at the (not enough) rain- (more expensive) corn-(more expensive) ethanol connection, an alternate source, sugar cane based ethanol from Brazil, is suffering from too much rain affecting harvesting and density of sugar content in cane.

Interesting.. bad year for ethanol, and food... While the old $.50/gal import duty expired jan 2012, the US customs and border protection agency just imposed a 2.5% tariff on imported ethanol... I guess they need to protect our border from cheap energy. :-)

Re: Breaking News

Where my parents retired to in Arkansas, today is supposed to be the tenth day this month with tempratures over 100 degrees while having less than 0.97" of rain over that same period. That was after six 100+ days and no rain during the last week of June. In June they had 2.2" of rain, but 2.01" of that occurred on one day with just 0.19" for the rest of the month.
