Brutal EQs

Re: Brutal EQs

Once upon a time, I did a eq just like that on the L and R eq's. There were reasons for that, like no access to system DSP or amp gains and a insanely hot subwoofer level.

Turning down subwoofers with 15dB can be done trough geq's, but I prefer to do it somewere else. It's just a tool.

Whoever cut everything below 200Hz with the eq sliders, when there is a perfectly good high and low pass filter to the left of them is a tool.

I had one of my systems rented out to a concert where there was a band with their own BE. We provided some of the gear (including a FOH package) as well as a "helper/loader".

Later that week I'm about to start soundcheck and the same employee is there with me and I ask him if the BE had a hard time getting the kick drum to sound right. "Yeah", my employee tells me, "he was all over the double kick set (miced with 4 kick mics) for like half the sound check, how do you know - psychic?".

"No, but setting the HPF of the main EQ at 400 Hz probably doesn't do much good to the kick drum sound".

Re: Brutal EQs

The Foh graphic that was supplied to a festival I'm just back from had the opposite the low pass was turned all the way down, " where's the high end mate?" Actually it was noticed before that conversation took place but could have been fun if the setup times had been tighter G
