I am working on fabricating a case for my ETC Smartfade ML.
I have sourced this effects pedal case from the bay.

and am looking to supplement with some of this rigid foam.

Guessing I will need to scrape the carpet clean when applying the rigid foam? Would be lovely to be able to apply the rigid on top of the carpet. Also what adhesion stuff is used for this application.
One additional note does heating up a cutting blade generally make a cleaner cut with this rigid foam?

Scotch 77 spray adhesive is a commonly used product. It's possible that you could get the foam to stick to the carpet. Removing the carpet will either be very easy or a real PITA - there doesn't seem to be much in between.

You might want to reconsider the rigid foam for something a little softer, or use the rigid foam as the base layer and a softer urethane or polyester foam layer for more impact dissipation. Does ETC have a recommendation?

Ben, in my experience, most glues soften up a good bit with a hot-air gun. The kind you use for heat shrink, not a hair dryer.
Maybe back up the laminate on the outside with a towel soaked in cold water. You don't want to de-laminate the case.
Hard to say how rigid that foam is, but I've cut stuff under 1" easily with a box-cutter knife. Thicker, and I get out the wife's electric carving knife. Heck, we only use it once or twice a year...... for food.
MAKE SURE IT'S CLEAN when you put it back in the drawer !!!!

DON'T heat the blade. It will melt through, while it's still hot, but you'll never get the crap off the blade. 1 shot, and it's scrap. For heat cutting, a wire is used.

Cool thanks for input. Guessing I can source the Scotch 77 spray locally. Will stick to just using a box cutter. Guess I saw a video where someone was using a cutting wire on foam and the cuts looked crisp. Guess the rigid foam will be different but every time I have cut regular foam its been a little rough on the cuts.
Also Tim I was hoping to have it be a snug fit where the unit dropped in to the rigid foam. It is handled with care but just having it open is not an option. I might have some pick and pack around and so that might be an option.
I have a Dremel that makes some clean cuts so if the box cutter is a hack job I will give that a try.
Also I do have a hot air gun but might give a spray over the carpet a shot. If it doesnt work I will peel it out.
