Cleaning CD?

The CD player part of my car radio just yesterday started rejecting discs. I only tried 2 different ones. The one MP3 CD that I was listening to for the last week or so was playing and then just suddenly stopped and gave me the error message. Later I put in a relatively new CD and it played for a while (about 10 min) and then stopped. Has anyone had any luck with a cleaning CD? This is one of those slot CD players where is pulls the CD in. This radio is the type that looks like I would have to take the whole dash apart to get at the radio and I am not going to go to that trouble.

Re: Cleaning CD?

What kind of vehicle? I know GM had problems with their CD players. My friend was one of the unlucky ones with the issue. No fix other than replace.

It’s a 2007 Honda Civic Si. It comes with a really nice radio but it looks like it is part of the dash. Before I start tearing the dash apart I would be more likely to buy an MP3 player and dedicate it to this car. The built in radio does have an aux input and I have used it occasionally. I may try a cleaning CD just to see if it helps, I assume that it can’t hurt.

Re: Cleaning CD?

I bought the Maxell CD-340 lens cleaner. I put it in and it played the first track that tells you to switch to track 3. When I did that it spun for a little while then the CD player/radio spit the CD out and gave me the bad disk error message. I tried it again and this time after switching to track 3 it said cleaning complete. I did it one more time successfully and then put in a music CD and it played fine. So it seems to have worked and fixed my problem.

I'm not sure what you guys are all on about - my truck has a tape deck and I just can't get over all that warmth!

Talk about a dirty environment...
