This is just my personal view and what I usual like to do..... (experimentation is key) I use a combination of both, 1- 2 dynamic’s for close in on/off axis positions and a condenser 2-4 feet back in an on axis position when mic’ing my bass quad box
If I had to choose just 1 mic I’d go for a condenser mic and I use a AKG Perception 220 which would easily fit in your budget.
