Console cuing system.

I am wondering if what I want already exists. I have looked at Qlabs and show control and they don’t seem to do what I want. I am not interested in playing back sound effects. What I want is software that will allow me to do cue/scene management better then I can on an X32. If I can make this part of it work I can use an X32 for the musical theater show that I do. And I want this to work on a windows PC.

Basically I want it to work almost exactly like the built in Avid console scene management system works. With the added feature of it handling the inserting of decimal point scenes. But really all I need is fader movements. If I need a scene or 2 to do more I can have this system recall a snippet in the x32.

If anyone is interested in exactly what that functionality would be I will write up a description.

Re: Console cuing system.

I have re-read some old posts on here about the X32 that lead me to try some things. At the moment I have a clients X32 and have been playing with it to learn what I can and can’t do. I am impressed with the changes that they have made to the firmware with the updates. I actually (with the client’s permission) used it at a concert last night.

I have a Behringer BCF2000 that I have been using when I rent a Roland M400 console to expand its functionality. I have been playing with it this week to see how it works with the X32. I can set it to recall next cue, or set it to recall next scene, or set it to recall next snippet. And also recall previous. So it gives me a Go and a Back button. But the spot on the console display window doesn’t display the correct cue/scene when I use this method.

I have also used the BCF2000 to give me access to what I call buried faders, things that are on a lower level and I want quick access to without having to switch layers.. And I have been forced to safe those things because with the M400 it didn’t send fader (CC) Control Change commands. Well the X32 does send and receive CC for fader moves in scene/snippet recalls and this gives me more flexibility with the BCF2000.

I have also discovered that I can turn off the general preference of “Scene GO next” since I am doing the GO and BACK with the BCF2000 and then as I am recalling or should I say dealing with the scenes I can make the changes I want and just hit save. I do have to be in the Scenes View screen and it is 3 different buttons I have to press in the right order. It would be nice if I could assign a save to an assignable control button. And I could then just double tap it no matter what screen is displayed.

I was wondering since the Cues only recall a scene and/or a Snippet. Could I make that work? It is really nice that you can insert decimal point Cues. But it is still an awkward way of doing it.

More then 100 scenes would make this all work so much better. As I have said before it is the speed with which you can or can’t work that is important for the way I do these musical. In some ways the capabilities of the X32 are great and the cues/scenes/snippets are rather capable but they are definitely not fast to work with. It is faster and more flexible then it used to be.

Now that I see that at least the fader moves which are the most important part to me are sent and received with MIDI I am wondering what it would take to make it work with a computer sending and receiving the MIDI commands. I would prefer to be able to do this all in the console. But I would even be interested in learning whatever programming language would be needed to make it happen exactly as I want it to work. I can spell that out if anyone is interested.
