It teaches you how to think rationally and critically, and it applies directly to absolutely everything in life. (Especially metaphysics)That is why I think that the joke about majoring in philosophy only tells half the story, since even though for most it may not seem to help you get a job it most definitely underlies everything you will ever come across in life.
