It suddenly dawned on me that on a cruise ship, it's likely impossible to hang a line array or similar PA given the roll of the ship and the constraints of swing space. Does anyone know what is actually used? Is it something in wall, or is it something else? I was on a Royal Caribbean cruise a while back and I know their rigs were 100% EAW, so I'm trying to think of how they managed it. Specific ship class would be the Royal Caribbean Voyager.

I have never been on a cruise ship or have any experience or knowledge in how the loudspeakers are deployed-HOWEVER it would not be that hard to anchor them down from the sides to keep them from swaying.

Some solid material (aluminum or stainless steel) could easily be used.

Re: Cruise Ship Mains

I've done a couple of gigs on cruise ships. One with a installed D&B system, they had some pretty serious anchoring in all possible directions on those C4 cabinets. The other one was a rental job I did for a shop, we used some heavy duty ratchet straps and secured everything except monitors and mic stands, and were told that if the seas got too rough, we'd had to tear it down.

Max,

I've seen everything from a small trap array for mains (KF650) and then delay rings for the rest of the audience right up to big boy line array. The line arrays were dead hung from at least two points, oriented to provide support in the major axis of ship roll (port-starboard). There could have been a third point, it was dark.
