I've been searching for some kind of cue light system I can use on stage. On my current gig, I it on the artist's in-ear mix 99% of the time and my eyes follow him around on stage. There are times when band members that I don't always have good line of sight to need my attention. I've seen various cue light systems before and I'm wondering if anyone has any good suggestions. Looking for probably 4 stations.

Couldn't they just throw bottles at you?

It might be possible to homebrew something that would work effectively. Perhaps a guitar pedal to make contact closure, then a row of lights. It would probably be possible to use XLR connectors on the pedal so you could run down the sub-multis rather than having to run a separate control line for the cue lights.

Re: Cue Light System

How about a separate talkback mic at the positions you can't see, or else a floor switch that allows their vocal mic to be switched to your monitor?
We do this for the offstage backline techs. Switched mic routed to the cue buss. Works very well and easy to implement.

Also Radial makes a footswitch for this. Routes the mic to a B output when you stomp it.

Don't the Avid consoles have a remote with a call button that signals the operator? That always seemed like a cool feature. http://www.avid.com/us/products/personal-q

On one tour I was doing FOH, me and the monitor guy didn't have COM so we set up an event in the Avid consoles to flash the console lights to get each others attention.. We each had a push button wired into a 1/4" cable going down the snake and into the other console... He hits his button and my console lights flashed.. It's a great feature IF you are using Avid consoles.. You could give one to each performer on stage and make a separate event for each one. I think you can even specify whether the litlites flash or the actual console LED's.

Another option for this task is a ProCo Panic Button. It's at the bottom of this page:

I used a few recently and was very impressed with them - solid construction and glitch-free operation. The only downside was that it seems batteries run down quite quickly in them (they make a lovely sound when they die, too). A 9v battery didn't last soundcheck and gig. Best to run off the mains adaptor where possible.

This is how I do it on all my gigs if they are all on ears. On my current gig there are 8 talk mics that get mixed on top of my cue bus (there are several ways to do this, depending upon what console you have) so I always hear them. I never want to go back to mixing ears without the talk mics!

Also, I use momentary foot switches, that way the muso's can't leave them on.
