Got in to my storage shed for the first time in a while. Evidentially it had roof leak. I picked up a 10" coax wedge and heard sloshing and thought this can't be good.
I have the driver out and drying, and the box is in the sun drying. Pretty much everything inside was sitting in the water for weeks.
Any thoughts on what I should do to the components before reassembling it?

Hello

Once the speaker - both coils - are well dry and you have tested the speaker with amp wired directly to each coil, simply put all together and give it a try. The x-over components are fine with water - it is the speaker voice coils and gaps, that are critical. I would unscrew the HF-diapragm and make sure the slot in magnet is not rusted and that the voicecoil body - that often is paper - is not swollen.

If you have oscillator - then just sweep both LF & HF with an amp - if ok, then put all together and go on.

Cheers

Hey Don,

Uh oh! Which transducer is this? Some are waterproof front, some are waterproof both sides. If the latter they'll survive direct immersion. Looking at the depth of the water it may have just rested on the magnet structure, which is probably fine. The back of the compression driver cavity is sealed so no water can get in that way, it has to come in from the front to touch the coil. So if the cone's not wet you're probably OK - but a listening test once the passives dry out will tell you what you need to know. Hope your box is OK.

Hi Bennett,
It's a 10FCX64. I haven't had a chance to pull it apart yet. I had already poured some water out of the ports before I disassembled it.

Don, that woofer is waterproofed on the front side, but not the back, so if the cone sat in water you may have a problem. Hopefully not, but this ain't rocket science - if it looks OK and sounds OK it probably is OK.
