Digico SD9 firmware update

Re: Digico SD9 firmware update

How hard is it to do a firmware update on an SD9? We have one that we aquired from another company and the firmware is old, it doesn't even recognize the latest offline editor files.

TIA
Not very hard if you follow the instructions, but you need to speak to the national distributor to get the files. Takes ½ hour max.

Re: Digico SD9 firmware update

That doesn't seem like a very wise approach to customer service. I mean, what are you going to do, load up Digico's firmware on a Behringer console? What exactly are they trying to protect here?

And, btw, is it just me or does Digico's offline editor pretty much suck?

Really, I thought I saw the file on Digico's website.

Justin,
I don't mind the offline editor at all, it allows me to do everything I need once you figure out what all the buttons are to navigate the screen. I would like to be connected to the console via a pc and make all the changes realtime though.

You can ask some of the lighting console manufactures about that, cloned consoles running the original software...

Not the same thing. All a lighting console does is control on/off and fade up/down times and give you a pretty GUI to look at. They are all just basically big spread sheets. Sound consoles handle the actual analog to digital to analog conversion and way, way more processing than a lighting console. For a lighting console to be viewed the same as a sound console, it would have to contain all of the dimmers, dimmer processing units, and all of the CPU functions for the moving lights inside the console as well.

Because the amps and system DSP are built into modern digital audio consoles?

Modern lighting consoles include fairly sophisticated effects engines (generating the values in real time), for often thousands of control channels. For the software end of things, there's actually quite a bit of similarity in the complexity of the control between lighting and sound consoles:

numerous control channels
multiple parmeters per control channel (EQ, routing, dynamics processing vs. color, beam, internsity, position)
assignable effects engines (reverb, delay vs. motion and color/beam effects)
flexible patching
fewer physical UI elements than control channels
&c.

Re: Digico SD9 firmware update

Hi Steve, which version is the console running ? If it's too old I think you must upgrade to previous versions before coming to V573, released 1 week ago.

Hi Renato,

I contacted Digico and got V573 for the console. I was going to upgrade the console yesterday, but it was going out on an event that night, so i didn't want to mess with it. I really don't recall what version the console is running. Digico did send me a pdf with all info regarding what versions work with what.
I must say that the Digico support team has been awsome so far, they have replied to emails very fast and give you all the info you need right away.

Yes, if the console is running firmware which is older than V443 you need to upgrade to that first, then upgrade again to the latest (currently V573). If you try and skip this step it will just crash, which happened to me on an SD11. I believe it's something to do with replacing ReadyOn, which is involved in making a snapshot of the Windows environment, with something new.

I also seem to remember that there was another step if you were upgrading from versions prior to V300.

I would specifically tell Digico support what version you are currently running and ask what steps are required.

So, let me get this straight...you've been registered for almost two years, and have a total of four posts, and you STILL haven't edited the real name field in your profile to display your real first and last name, as required by forum rules?

Re: Digico SD9 firmware update

Has anyone updated the firmware with a rack-pack? The instructions say "disconnect all MADI, Local I/O Audio and headphone connections before proceeding with this upgrade" (done)

and "Please connect your D Rack to CAT5 Port1, ensure both power supplies are switched on and remove any audio connections to it." Now since I have two D Racks which both need to be upgraded should they both be left plugged in? Or should I have 1 plugged into Port 1, update that one, then plug the other into Port 1 and update that?

Thanks for sharing your experience,
Ibelis

Re: Digico SD9 firmware update

One at a time on the rack updates.

In answer to some previous posts:

1) Digico handle distribution of updates of software to customers carefully to avoid them accidentally messing up their own consoles. It does happen.

2) I wouldn't say the offline editor sucks. Its infact an exact copy of the software running on the consoles, so much like with the Avid software, WYSIWYG in terms of offline changes vs. online changes.
