[WTB] Dual compressor

I am looking for a compressor. Ya, I know, all my desks have bunches of them....

I don't need gates. I need external side chain and the ability to link the two halves together. It doesn't have to be high end but I don't want a low end unit either.

I am just going to use it as a stereo ducker.

Got anything gathering dust (but not too much dust )?

I've got a dbx 1066 with the usual dbx meter issues.

I really like the sound and function of the DBX 1066. If you don't buy Evan's I might let one of mine go since I have gone mostly digital now.

I would like it to rack mount and I don't want a Behringer ( not that I won't use them, my Sunday gig has several... This use needs better).

I have used the DBX 166 and 266 but not the 1066.

Rob, the 1066 is kind of an Acura to the 266's Honda. Really the same car underneath, with improvements. But still a blue collar compressor, IMHO. Works well but has a particular character that can be a bit dull.

The FMR RNC is good in its normal mode, and really transparent in super nice mode. Nice comp.

The LEDs on the meter are stuck on or don't light up... this does not effect the actual function of the compressor.

The 1066 has a completely different VCA and is much more transparent than any of the lower line DBX units. Bennett has a good description but any dullness is only when you don't back off the attack a bit. The VCA is really fast and will kill all the transients and take the life out of things quickly if you leave the attack at max. It is not point and shoot but if you learn how to dial it in, it is stellar for a VCA unit. I have a 160XT as well in my rack and I prefer the sound and function of the 1066. I would say the 266 is more of a worn out Dodge Neon than a Honda though.

I have not ever used the RNC but I have never heard anyone say they did not like it.
