Eaw sb730

Does anyone have any opinion as to if these cabinets are worth while, or should I not bother...I am currently using 6 kf730 tops and 4 sb1000 subs per side... Would I be better off with two more tops, or would these be useable flown on top of my rig. Just looking for someone that has heard, used sb730's to increase some grunt on the rig...

Re: Eaw sb730

IME using SB730 gives you more low-mid output from your array. I also suspect that it clears up the mid-range a bit, but it's noting I've been able to prove, it's just a feeling.

If you have enough output there already, then you probably don't need them. If you're looking at doing bigger shows, you might need them. Last time I used a rig like that(4xkf730, 2xsb730, 2xsb1000) I found that it had a lot of output for it's size.

Hey Shane,

Another advantage of flying a few SB730 at the top of your array (besides increased LM headroom) is that they will drag the LF patten up to better match the HF pattern. Easier than using a bunch of frequency shading to do it, and if you were going to get advanced anyway it gives you a little more power to do so.

Call SFM; they may have a set you can demo, and are fairly close. Otherwise, KB Productions in Belleville has 'em, I think. So do I, but they're a whole lot closer.

Re: Eaw sb730

Shane, I've seen and FOH tech'd quite a few shows with the SB730's over the KF730's from a few different providers. I've heard it done with and without and honestly could take it or leave it. They do extend the range and headroom somewhat if you feel like you are lacking power down there.

Bennett's assessment is right, however on a more practical point, in some situations (such as an SL100) flying the SB's actually results in the the KF's hanging pretty low. I would rather do without them in those situations to get the tops up higher.

Kyle/Terry seem to swear by them, so you could always give theirs a spin and see for yourself.... sonics aside, if you have the height and can pick some up cheaply it'll certainly make your rig look the equivalent of 3 more boxes per side bigger, which isn't a bad thing for impressing clients. They also make a good base platform in the sad event of having to ground stack.

Thanks Jeff, I did end up getting a pair off eBay cheaply... I know "a pair" (one per side) might not do much, but what I really got them for is to hopefully not have to use subs in classic country shows and put the whole rig in the air, or like you say , get a bit more low/mid presence and use it as a ground stack "bumper" which would allow me to get the tops a bit higher, especially when they're stacked on a stage wing... I don't think Kyle will be too helpful since he got his hand slapped for playing in my cookie jar with his rig...and that's all I got to say about that...

Downside of flying LF at the top of your array is it just puts more LF mud in to the ceiling of the venue, which could be very annoying(like in arenas). :)
