Cat Powers versus the sound tech Cat Power tongue lashing the sound guy December 11, 2013 @Trees Dallas, TX - YouTube

I laughed, at her, and cringed.
I wonder if she could actually name a reverb that is used on a PA system that is NOT digital?????????????

And the difference between a digital reverb and a hall reverb is????????????

She obviously doesn't have a clue and is just trying make him look bad in front of the crowd. So as a result he probably doesn't want to to much to help her after going through that. So she looses even more.

And does she expect the monitors to sound like the mains? I HATE running reverb in the monitors-it just screws stuff up.

And somehow SHE is an expert in sound? After all the stupid things she is saying on stage-YEAH a real EXPERT that one-----------

Just shut up an play. Let others do their job. If she doesn't like it-then hire somebody who CAN give her the sound she wants.

And don't do it in front of the audience.

Re: Eeeeeeeeeeh

That bit where she asks for him to shut off mons so she can hear foh? YOU NEVER GET TO HEAR FOH, NOT FROM STAGE, NOT PROPERLY!!

Sometimes I get amateur bands who wander out the front during sound check to keep a watchful ear over the mix, they get a tech they like and grow out of that though. As for stagecraft, even if there is something wrong with the sound, the last thing in the world you should do is bring the entire audience's attention to it, Diiiiiiivaaaaaaa

Heh heh, of course someone on here knows the tech in the vid :-D poor bugger I didn't hear anything wrong with the sound.

Re: Eeeeeeeeeeh

Sounds like time for a smoke break to me.
And I don't even smoke.

I think her set list was too short and needed to use up some time.

Sound check? And what does digital (vs analog) matter?

The audience was getting restless, too. Shut up and play.

:x~:-x~

I'm not defending her, I didn't even watch the video. There's no room on a stage or my laptop for being a diva but...

Don't bitch about the bands who go out front to check the sound. I do it every show and frequently fix totally stupid system errors. It's not something you grow out of, it's something you grow into so you don't have to pay that extra person. Some of us are well versed at knowing how we should sound.

And don't underestimate what a properly trained ear can hear from on stage. Most of the content is isn't all that directional and it isn't hard to pick up the rings that are making it sound bad out front.

Hope you're staying cool, I hear it's hot in Australia right now.

Re: Eeeeeeeeeeh

Still not as bad as Lady Sovereign...

Funny, I've watched a couple of videos, and in both instances painfully loud icepick type of feedback that made their heads snap back in pain was what set both of them off, but I guess they should just grin and bear it

Re: Eeeeeeeeeeh

I take it back. She seemed reasonable. I didn't get "diva" from that video.
She didn't want a sibilant reverb. She wanted it "warmer" with "less highs." I know exactly what she was going for and I could hear over the cell phone that is was sibilant. It was probably pretty nasty there. Maybe that should have been handled during sound check and maybe it was. It could be that as the night went on a set of fatigued ears were "brightening it up a bit."

Re: Eeeeeeeeeeh

Needs more dubly.

I doubt she will ever play my neck of the woods. If she does I'll be sure to not be involved.
