This event bombarded my neighborhood over the weekend. Lots of noise complaints and I'm not surprised; they cranked the bass (and sometimes fireworks) till 4AM each morning. Lots of parents who's babies couldn't sleep and animals freaking out. Anyway, I'm curious what rigs they were running and if they were doing any "bass steering"? Is there anyone on the list who works this traveling overnight party?

5 Stages total. Smallest was a Funktion One rig. Three were indeed D&B J rigs. The Basspod stage had 24 B2's. Second Main stage was J12's, 16 J-Infra and 32 J-Subs( may have been 12/24). Pyramid Stage I believe was all J-Sub/J-Infra as well. Main stage was Martin MLA. Lots of noise, the only system that didn't impress me was the Funktion One.

Re: Electric Daisy Carnival?

When we did it in Orlando, it was all d&b and I tuned all the stages to have the same response. Plenty of steering used with CSA B2s and J Subs. The last time through we lost the show in the eleventh hour. I believe the company that did it out west took the entire tour for a flat rate, but I have no first hand knowledge of that. I heard it from a PM on the show.

Re: Electric Daisy Carnival?

Sounds like they've set the bar pretty high as far as gear. I'm curious if it is usually held within a few miles of residential housing or if this stop was an anomaly. btw, it was held at the speedway here which sometimes gets a little loud but never goes past 11 (I believe) and of course doesn't have "pulsing disco beats" that mess with your head. ;)

The West coast team that is responsible for EDC prefers D&B J.. however in the last year they have been a little more open to other products (mainly because they are doing so many more shows so far away from home base).

I am the contracting partner for Orlando.. we used D&B both years but from different providers.

Re: Electric Daisy Carnival?

Cool why the change in providers? What's the real story there?

Digging for something that is not there? The story is that this company is new to this type of bidding process and does not necessarily have relationships in every part of the country. Neil over at Beach Audio supplied us with year one. He is an excellent provider and he will get opportunities in the future to work on our shows.

Re: Electric Daisy Carnival?

Yes, I'm curious as well. The claim here was that it would bring in $134M to the local economy. That seems like a pretty huge amount for 65k people attending. But EDM does seem to be gaining popularity. Dare I say it's the hip thing for kids with money?

Re: Electric Daisy Carnival?

I showed up early for infocomm last year in Vegas. The EDC kids were everywhere... They where getting in as I was leaving for a class at 7am. I'm 28...and out of touch.

It was actually quite funny to see them get off the buses at the hotel as we were leaving to get ready for the show.

After all night of partying-in the hot desert and the dust it was quite a sight-tired-dirty "coming down" etc. The girls were pulling on their G strings as if to "try" to cover up-Yeah right.

I really wish I had thought to take some video.

Re: Electric Daisy Carnival?

Now that LiveNation and AEG running things, it will be interesting to see how EDM events shake out the provider side.

As far as EDM goes.. AEG and LN do NOT run things at all. These festivals are in the select few hands of people that have been doing this sort of thing all their lives.

I've been observing the purchase of EDM events by big promoters world-wide. I probably shouldn't have used AEG and LN as examples. While Insomniac, Inc. is unlikely to be "for sale" at this time, there are others who are cashing in after years or decades of building the genre as a group experience. The entrance of owners with no legacy loyalties to existing providers will doubtless change the dynamics of supplying systems for EDM. It happened on the live side and there is no reason to presume it will not happen to EDM. It may take longer, but as ownership of major events consolidates, so too does the ability to supply their needs.

And I hope I'm wrong. But this damn Digital Crystal Ball has been "more right" ever since I installed the outdoor antenna...

My email address has a rather large company title in it... it has been business at usual - except for now we can produce more than 1 multi million dollar amazing event because the company has a much larger checkbook.
