On the Mtl2 the distance between the plates that the speakers mount to is 8.5'', My Faital pro 18 xl1500's are 9.1" . If I built a box that is 1'' wider in the center, would that screw the whole tune up of the cabinet? MTL2.jpg

Alan,

Making the box slightly smaller will raise the tuning slightly higher, IIRC the Fb is around 37 Hz, it may go up to 38 or 39 Hz.
With as steep as the LF rolloff is on that little box, I doubt you will notice it, but the extra Xmax of the Faital should be an upgrade, assuming it's Vas is not larger than the stock EV 18".

Art,

I would actually be making the box a bit bigger. Long story short, Im tired of my front loaded box's I built, time to try something different.
Alan,

Well, then why don't you consider a bit bigger box that will give you a 6 dB advantage over a ported design.

I will soon be designing/building the Keystone B-low (or C-low), 5" taller, and about 5 Hz lower version.

Cheers,

Art is this the box?
Alan,

No, that appears to be a Hornresp simulation with similar frequency response to the Keystone sub.
The upcoming Keystone B-Low (or C-Low if it does not quite reach the low corner of 31 Hz ;^) ) will be 5" taller, and have around 5 Hz lower extension.

The picture below shows the Keystone below a small format Paraline line array, with wave-guide extensions. The wave-guides pack flat, using ratchet straps for solid attachment, and result in 3-6 dB more SPL, like more than doubling amplifier power, except with no power compression. The twenty eight 8" horn loaded drivers (and ten 3" diaphragm HF drivers) above the pair of Keystones run out of headroom at the same SPL for most genres of live music.

I'm looking forward to "a whole lot of shakin' going on" after I finish a half dozen Keystone B-Lows :^).

Very nice Art. Only problem is my designing skills stop at the simple front loaded ported bass reflex designs...
There are complete plans available for the Keystone sub referenced in the original post.

The original Keystone design is already complete, and extensive testing with noise, live music and playback has been conducted by myself and many others in the many years since finishing the design.
