I picked up a pair of EV SaX 250 speakers. I wanted to compare them phase and output wise to my Yorkville EF500p speakers but I kind of ran into a snag.
The EVs are rated at 0db "U?" for rated power. My EF500ps are rated at +4dbu.
My plan was to bring the EF500ps to just start of their Limit lights and then turn the EVs down until they as well just started to flash their clip ? Limit lights. Match input gain between the 2 speakers.
What I seem to have found using the Pink Noise generator on my yamaha 01v96 is that the EV's don't seem to limit at 0dbu. The clip light it seems is an input clip not a internal limiter/processing light as the yorkville speaker limiter lights are.

Looking at the block diagram for the EV speakers - Electro-Voice it shows the clip light before eq and the limiter section in the amp of the speakers.

I do know it took +5 digital full scale to get the clip light to come on. I'm guessing this was input clip of the preamp or around +22 dbu or so. ( Just guessing right now )

Does this seem normal for the speakers?

Thanks;
