Before I go back to the boss and tell him he’s dreaming I want to double check here, the maximum outputs that an M32 can support is 16 isn’t it? Whether you have one DL attached or two, you can’t expand it out to 32 outputs because the software doesn’t support it.

That depends on what you mean by "outputs".
Internally there are only 16 buses + L/R/C so, yes, only 16 "unique mixes" + L/R/C

The buses can also be routed to Matrix buses for additional processing. Those Matrix buses can then be routed to physical outputs.
Nearly any internal signal can be routed to one or more physical outputs: XLR, AES50, or Ultranet.

You can get 32 outputs out via USB to a DAW or editor don't forget, and these are pretty customisable in what goes where.

There are also eight auxiliary outs - sort of. There are 4 mono TRS balanced 1/4" outs labeled aux 1 - 4 and, and a stereo 5 -6 that also has RCA outs. The same configuration is available as aux inputs. Aux 7 - 8 only send to (and return from) the internal USB recorder. These are line level and do not include mic preamps.
