Hi guys
First post fro Canada here
Im building my own PA and looking at 15" to mate with my JBL 2446
I can get the Fane Sovereign 15.600N or Precision Powers PD 156
I am unfamiliar with these companies. .
Looking at 90-800/1000hz20150719_113536.jpg20150719_113536.jpg
Thanks
John

Re: Fane vs Precision Power

A lot more information is needed.

For example-why are you limited to a 15" and those models?

Is this front loaded-horn loaded etc?

A 15" is going to start to narrow up at those freq-so your coverage may be a bit uneven.

.What is the coverage pattern of the HF horn?

Re: Fane vs Precision Power

Im looking at front load
60x40 horn
3 tops per side is what im building but also a second 15 alone to add underneath for bigger venues and outdoors..
I figured 6x15/side should be enough to keep up with 3 2446..
I currently have some rebuilt rcf 15s out of some older elites...1000s probably but they were reconed
I was looming at the fane and precision device as a local dealer offered me a reasonable price for 6..
..never used either before

Re: Fane vs Precision Power

I have Fanes in my vintage Hiwatt gear, but those were made several iterations of Fane ago (receivership, fire, famine, pestilence, etc.). At least *some* of the Turbosound drivers were built by Fane. In general, I hold the brand in high regard - but, I'm not familiar with that particular model.

Have you definitely decided against 12" for mids?

I would first be concerned with how you are planning on using 3 60* horns per side.

So if a dealer gives you a "reasonable price on 6" and you want 6 per side-what are you going to have to pay for the other 6?

If you are looking at having 6 15" drivers per side-and then "adding 1 more 15" for larger gigs", you will never notice the difference. You really need to DOUBLE the drivers to get a noticable increase. 1 won't do it.

Re: Fane vs Precision Power

Hi ivan..sorry for the confusion
3 tops per side with one 15 and 1 jbl2446...each top can mate with 2 single 18 cabinets.
I can add a second 15 mid cab and 18 cab when needed so if for instance of a outdoor event of 3000 people then one stack will consist of ...
3x18
2x15
1x2446

I will create 6 of these stacks..I have enough (almost) for 4
What do you suggest for 2446 horns with 3 per side angled at a 180 degree curve if not 60 degree...maybe I am wrong??

WHen you said 3 horns per side-my "natural" reaction was to assume you would simply be facing them all forward (as most people do) which is a bad idea.

180* seems like a really wide "target" coverage, but could be useful in some situations.

It just depends on the "target area" to be covered.

Re: Fane vs Precision Power

Precision Devices superceded Fane as Turbo supplier, during Turbo's heyday.

That you are contemplating a project of this scale and haven't already done important MFR homework is of concern.

6..15" Fane Sovereign pro 600N

4...Precision Devices PD 2450...16ft/3 bass reflex cabinet tuned to 32hz
Also have 8 jbl 2241 which are fresh recones tuned for 40hz..this way they wont blow up if outdoors as a hot 35hz may do

How do you "tune a recone?" Maybe in a cabinet that is tuned for a particular freq-but the driver?

What does outdoors have to do with blowing up drivers?

What is a "hot 35Hz tuning"?

Re: Fane vs Precision Power

Ivan
Reconed...thats all
Cabinet tuned to 40hz...not 35hz
Outdoors sucks the bass out compared to indoors. ..hense one may try to boost the bottom end and then
KABOOM●●●

Thats all I meant

How does outdoors "suck the bass"?

I have never in all my years noticed. I have noticed INDOORs that the bass can get "sucked" due to diaphragmatic walls that flex at particular freq and absorb certain freq..

Yes, the is less bass outside-but it has NOTHING to do with it being sucked, and EVERYTHING to do with the lack of boundaries to reflect and "contain" the sound like inside.

Yes it DOES MATTER getting terms correct-sorry.

Speakers on go "KABOOM" when you try to push to much power to them-indoors or out. You can just as easily blow speakers inside as outside.

If you are not "looking after your system", then that is your fault.
