[QUOTE="Ivan Beaver, post: 51536, member: 30"] Re: Few questions on 18'' speakers. Folded horns have an interesting "history" of drivers. Historically (70/80's ish) the idea that most everybody was using (that I am aware of) was lightweight drivers and drivers that did not go particularly low. However Tom Danley has been using in various designs (the first was the LAB Sub) drivers that had a high motor strength and a heavy cone-with lots of excursion and the drivers (when used in a regular ported box) went pretty low. So the question begs "when a driver says it is designed to be used in a folded horn cabinet" which "style" of driver are they talking about? While a lot may appear to be "the same", the driver and the cabinet are very much interwoven in the design. One mistake that MANY people make-is to replace the driver in a well designed cabinet with another driver that they "think" is a better driver. Better for what is the real question. Yes it may be "better" in a ported box-but what about the particular design in question? There are a lot more than basic specs that need to be looked at with horn design. It is not a trival thing.
