This next show on the 9th, I'm going to set the mains at around -16, (enough headroom for transients) then the mains at unity. Then I'll mix with the faders. I used to set each channel at unity, and then set the beginning mix with the gains, which I realize is wrong. It was a bad habit that worked well for me with my old board, but I want to do things properly, so for this next show, I'll put that into practice...
