Finally!!!

Re: Finally!!!

Too bad they couldn't have done this while I still owned an SC48. I could have used that on MANY occasions and had to resort to recording splits as the alternative with a lot of extra cost and headache.

Looks like they did a good job of rewriting the FwX driver.

Happy news for all SC48 owners.

Re: Finally!!!

Only 32 tracks? When I was mixing Carl Palmer that would have just about done the drums alone... ;) Should be plenty enough for any rock band particularly those using an SC48. Good move on Avid's part. Avid also backtracked on PT9 cross grades as well. We bought a 008 last year for a film project playback and literally a week later they came out with PT9. They told us at the time the cross grade would expire at the end of last year. Fast forward to this spring and I see at Sweetwater as I'm getting the upgrade for our Nuendo rig they have the crossgrade.

Now if they only had a Profile or D-Show that could do 128x72....

Re: Finally!!!

The console I'm setting up right now is currently sitting at 112 in x 216 out, spread across 6 locations. ;-)

Paul S. has been a great help.

That's I/O. When I told Paul I need big I/O, 128x72 he said matter of fact, "we don't consider that a big I/O count". The things that would lead me to a Profile that big for mons are the PT interfaces and the Waves capable plug in engine. Otherwise I like the layout of the Vista and the screens better. We can always add DAW interfacing and a plugin engine.

It's good to see Avid giving the lower end of the market some love. I think they, like most of the other console manufacturers figured that in SR the bulk of the dough comes from the lower end and the middle.

Getting into PT from the Studer means lots of AES3 8pairs, or MADI, and the MADI is either twisted pair (RJ45) or optical, no BNC. No Firewire or HDMI. At least the surface can be a DAW controller. They have defaults for pretty much every DAW package.

Re: Finally!!!

Same week they also release PT 9.05 beta for Lion. Had it up since Friday; works well on my 002R, although it uninstalls your MIDI drivers. At least able to do music again on Pro Tools (Live, Peak, Logic were all unaffected by Lion Upgrade.)
