I have an older Mackie mixer with the firewire card installed, however my newer laptop doesn't have a firewire port. Is there an adapter available?

Yes there are adapters. Just look up usb C to firewire 400 adapter and double check those are the ends you need.
Edit: Upon a little further research it appears to be more of a pita than I had thought and requires a couple adapters to make it happen. Heres a video that might be of assistance.
