For Ivan (tuck and roll content)

Re: For Ivan (tuck and roll content)

I never really cared for the black-but that was the most popular color-of the PA cabinets anyway.

That is a good price-especially if the speaker drivers work. The head could be fixed and the whole thing sold for a nice profit. But I just don't have the time for it. That is probably near me.

Thanks for the link.

OK now for the "weird" part. My Blue cabinets don't have the familiar "bar smell", and still retain the origional "smell". Yes-I can admit it-but from time to time I will walk over to them and give a good deep "sniff".

Something about that smell-it brings back memories-if only for a few minutes :).

My red ones don't smell as nice-but not bad.

Ok, you really need to get out into the world more often, this is really just creepy!

Ivan. There's a local music shop that has a set of the black ones in the back sitting there with working speakers. They came out of a small town church? Believe it or not. What speakers came in these cabinets? I've been tempted to pick them up as conversation pieces for my living room....

HEY! I'm not the only one. A friend of mine (audio consultant) is into a side line of selling "scent sticks". They take whatever smell you want (or they can capture) and turn it into "sticks" that give off that same smell.

He has been looking for quite a while for the old "baklite" electronics smell. You know-the old smell of tube gear?

Apparently there is a market for this "smell"

OK I am crazy-but at least I can admit it.

Who else would buy a bunch of old broken amplifiers from decades ago and put them as decoration in their office?

OK I do know of one other guy-he is up north though-so I guess that explains him-------------------------------- :)

There were various speakers used in the Kustom PA gear. You can sometimes tell by the jackplate. If it says CTS-then they were CTS speakers. I know that you could also get Altec and JBL options.

If nothing is on the input jack-I guess they could be whoever gave them the best deal that year. As was typical in guitar amps of the day. Some other brands that would be in the same "ballpark" would be Eminance-Oxford among others.

You can tell by taking off the back cover and looking at the numbers that are stamped on the magnets. There will be a 2 or 3 digit number, then a dash and another longer number. The first 2 or 3 digit number is the internation number of the manufacturer. For example Eminance is 67 and CTS is 137.

I seem to recall that Kustom offered an "SRO" version of some of their speakers. Does that mean that Electro-Voice was a supplier as well?

I would assume so. Towards the end of the Kustom time (mid/late 70's) they used EV in a good number of cabinets. A lot of the horns/tweeters were EV. 1824 siren drivers with ST35? tweeters. I am not sure about the woofers-but would assume so.
