Fun with eBay!

So I sold a camera on eBay this May.
The shipping was to be UPS, and it has the amount quoted directly, and on the invoice that I sent out. About $13.00.
So he sends me what he thinks it should be instead, for different carriers, and the hilarity ensued.
Plus it was already packaged and ready to go.
Here are our back and forths. All of which happened after the auction ended, and at some point he had already paid me (what he determined to be fair.) I responded once a day, so he had, 2, 3, 4 emails a day.

Dear jackan,

Would you ship this Priority Mail or Fed-Ex ground which are both around
10.50?

Hello Trusty,
Thanks for bidding.

UPS is much closer to me, thus the
fact that I use them for all my shipping.
If you email me a label for
USPS I will use that, otherwise it will have to be as the auction states.

Dear jackan,

Hello. The Camera will probably fit into a small flat rate Priority mail box for 4.75 Postage. If not the medium Priority mail box is 10.50. Both include free delivery confirmation when you simply print the label at PayPal site. Then you can drop it at the Post Office without waiting in line.
Please follow these steps to print out my label.
1. Go to your PayPal account. 2. Click on the blue bar that says ?Merchant Services.? 3. Under the bold print ?Shipping & Tax? click ?Multi-order Shipping? 4. Click ?File? 5. Click ? Create New Orders? 6. Enter the shipping details 7. Hit Print & Pay 8. Print out the label on your computer. Please send me an invoice with the USPS postage amount. Hopefully it will fit into the small Priority flat rate box. P.S. You have a great looking dog..

Dear jackan,

HELLO. CAN YOU PLEASE SEND THE CAMERA IN A MEDIUM PRIORITY FLAT RATE BOX FOR 10.50? THE POSTAL SYSTEM WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO EMAIL YOU A POSTAGE LABEL. YOU CAN PRINT THE LABEL ON PAYPAL.

Dear trusty--gun,

Trusty,
Which would you rather?
That it be well packed, or that it fit
in the required box?

HI JACKAN, OBVIOUSLY I DO NOT WANT THE CAMERA DAMAGED IN SHIPMENT FROM UTAH TO LOS ANGELES. A 11X8X5 OR 11X13X3 MEDIUM PRIORITY BOX SHOULD BE ENOUGH ROOM TO WELL INSULLATE THE CAMERA WITH ABUNDANT BUBBLE WRAP, NEWSPAPER, OR ANY OTHER INSULLATION. DO NOT SEND IT IN A SMALL PRIORITY FLAT 5X8 BOX BECAUSE THERE IS NO ROOM FOR INSULATION WHATSOEVER. AGAIN, DO NOT SEND IT IN A SMALL 5X8 PRIORITY FLAT RATE BOX. IF THIS IS TOO COMPLICATED... YOU KNOW, PLEASE JUST SEND IT BY UPS AS YOU ORIGINALLY INTENDED AND JUST PUT IT IN A WELL INSULLATED BOX. A DAMAGED CAMERA WOULD IS WORTHLESS. AGAIN, JUST SEND IT UPS. THANK YOU.

- trusty--gun

Dear jackan,

HELLO. I PAID YOU 10.50 SHIPPING FOR USPS MEDIUM FLAT RATE PRIORITY SHIPPING. THE USPS MEDIUM FLAT RATE BOX IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE TO ALLOW PROPER INSULATION WITH NEWSPAPERS OR BUBBLE WRAP TO PROTECT THE CAMERA. IF YOU CAN NOT SIMPLY SHIP THIS CAMERA TO ME FOR THIS FAIR SHIPPING AND PROTECTED FROM DAMAGE, THEN JUST REFUND MY MONEY. WHAT IS THE STATUS?

Dear trusty--gun,

Shipped UPS tracking # 1ZR7xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dear jackan,

UPS DOES NOT DELIVER TO PO BOXES. THE ADDRESS YOU WERE GIVEN FOR USPS WAS A PO BOX. UPS WILL NOT DELVIER IT. IF YOU ARE NOW USING UPS IT NEEDS TO BE SENT TO A STREET ADDRESS. EMAIL ME FROM YOUR DIRECT EMAIL AND I WILL SEND YOU A STREET ADDRESS.

Re: Fun with eBay!

As someone who lives in an area without door to door USPS which requires me to have a PO Box that UPS doesn't ship to, and a house that is empty during my long work days and UPS always finding a reason not to deliver and wanting me to pick up from their distro center 3 hours away round trip, I don't see anything really humorous about someone wanting a package sent to the location they get their mail. He could of been a little clearer about why he wanted packaged a certain way, but probably had a genuine reason.

I have learned to have packages directed to my work address, which then adds a whole different set of problems like when the school is actually open.

I have had numerous fights with people wanting the zip code to my house. Why? You can't send mail there.

Re: Fun with eBay!

Jay, he wanted USPS or FedEx to save two dollars.
I sent it UPS even though he did not pay for it.

Re: Fun with eBay!

It also sounds like he wanted it to go to his PO Box not his street address. I was just pointing out in my case that is a major difference that people who do not live in rural (or my case previously rural) areas do not understand.

Re: Fun with eBay!

Jay, quit being a wet blanket with my fun.

You are only reading your experiences into this, and not reading the full text.

1) Why would I already have his shipping address if he did not want me to have it?
2) When he moved over to all caps, why did he work himself into a frenzy, and then decide that UPS would be better? (Without paying for it.)
3) CT is not a rural address!

Wake up and quit bitching when this is a good time.
Since you have insisted on topic swerving, my next recourse, following internet protocol, is to liken you to a Nazi!

Re: Fun with eBay!

It is just the empathy (or maybe the pity) but I have had the same conversation any number of times from his end.

And we have now killed almost an hour with this discourse.

Now excuse, I have to send my troopers to check the mail. I think UPS left another package out in the rain (the only time they leave anything unsigned for).

Re: Fun with eBay!

Some people just don't like UPS.. customer is right yadda yadda

I live across the street from the local post office, and watch them drive past my house, as they deliver mail to just about everybody else in town but me and a few neighbors who they make pay for PO boxes (what's that about?)... I also see UPS and other delivery companies make frequent to daily drops at the local post office, for mail parcels that were apparently sub-contracted to them. Ocassionally I even see the UPS truck drop off packages for delivery to my PO box, but since I only check my POB in the morning, i don't get my delivery until the next day.

So apparently UPS does deliver packages to the local post offices that they then place in PO Boxes but UPS is restricted against accepting delivery to POB as an obvious case of government endorsed restraint of trade.

Despite these monopolies the post office is sucking wind and getting worse. They probably have legacy costs associated with previous labor deals that will be harder to manage than most buggy whip industries. I predict some ugly years ahead for them and small town customers. They are already talking about closing a lot of POs, Maybe I'll actually start getting home mail delivery if they close my local PO. :-)

Re: Fun with eBay!

WTC is wrong with you people?!?!

I find his responses totally humorous.
In a bizarre dysfunctional kind of way.
Do I need to pepper everything with little emoticons so you know when to laugh?
Are you the same people that don't get 30 Rock because there is no laugh track?

It's like when I put up my post about changing my company name to Assistance Audio and Associates, with the new marketing slogan, "Now with Twice as Much Ass!" And all you chowderheads hummed and hawed, "well it is a service based industry", "Some of your current clients might be offended", "I don't see what ass has to do with sound.", etc.

Even my moms elderly Lawyer friends thought it was funny. Does everyone here have such a tight ass that they have less of a sense of humor than retired lawyers?

Dude was sent an invoice for one amount, and was (did) chiseling me for $2 and change to pay less for shipping.

Go ahead, rant now on about your favorite carriers, etc.

Sigh, Jack

Re: Fun with eBay!

Its like when I went and saw "Spinal Tap" with a drummer I worked with at the time.
Me and one other person in the theater were the only ones laughing.

About a third of the way through the movie he leaned over and said, "you would think that they would have picked a better band to do this documentary on".

Re: Fun with eBay!

I don't know WTC was wrong with you, (C?)

what was wrong with me is not enough Johnny Beer (yet).

I'm making headway on that...

TFF, LOL If you ever make shirts with that saying, keep me in mind.

There are a lot of chuckleheads on eBay and that guy is one of them. There was the guy that won an auction, Paypaled me about 20% of the price and said his brother would sent the rest in a week or two. He got a refund and non paying bidder strike. Then there was the kid that bought a package of 2 items at a discount, but then only sent half the money. His friend wanted the other one and would send the rest. And needed each item sent to a separate address. Another refund and non paying bidder strike.

Re: Fun with eBay!

Hello All, I have been had!

Someone emailed me under the pretext of purchasing some merchandise, and started trying to "save a couple of bucks".
And it took me a week to catch on. Didn't occur to me until this morning, while I was lying in bed getting going.

Good one!
