There are lots of high stiffness materials, but diamond has nearly unparalleled specific stiffness (stiffness/unit mass). If one is trying to maximize the frequency to which pistonic behavior takes place, then diamond is an excellent choice. In this case aa vapor phase grown diamond on a mold that is later removed.
