Well, I'm finally renovating my basement rec room/wet bar/ home theatre and am looking for some opinions on speakers. I'm really disappointed in the build quality and performance of so called "HT speakers" so I figured since I'm a dealer of several proaudio brands I should just use some decent pro speakers. Options include QSC, Yamaha, Yorkville, and lower MI brands like Samson, Wharfdale etc. I plan on the typical 5.1 system (L,C,R- SL,SR, powered sub). I'm kinda stuck on the center speaker. Would like to have a fairly low profile speaker like your typical HT center speaker. Perhaps I should just buy a decent HT center unit and suppliment it. Any good ideas out there?

For cinema applications, your screen channels (ideally everything, but especially screen channels) should be similarly voiced. Mixing home speakers with pro won't give you an even result.

Fulcrum RM22's powered by a Powersoft M50Q for mains would be a good start.
If you search AV forums you will find a lot of people using Danley SH50's and other Danley speakers for home theatre.

I was a dealer for Paradigm, a Canadian company, for many years and have it, quite literally, all over the house. They offered several different levels most of which had a timbre matched center and surround speaker options and a good selection of subs. My higher end lines were B&W and BagEnd, but I sold a lot more Paradigm for HT applications.

Before you start to think about speakers-you need to have some sort of a budget in mind. If you don't, then you are wasting your time looking at options that could be way out of your price range.
Another thing you need to consider is-what is more important-sound quality or sound quantity? A lot of MI type speakers will be much louder-but often they will not sound as good-as the same priced HT speakers. Yes there are exceptions.
As with any "project" FIRST you have to define the goals/limits-THEN start to look at solutions.
Just like buyhing a truck. You need to determine the capacity (both weight-cubic volume-and occupant) before you start to look at different models. It doesn really matter if one model is "better" than another-if it doesn't meet your needs.
As often said-a good deal on the wrong gear-is STILL the wrong gear.
