What are these special events and what do they involve? Is it just one or two microphones out on the field or bands or what? How do you plan on handling mixing, level control, etc. for the special events? What is the installed system and what areas does it cover? When you have these special events are all the audience in the coverage of the installed system or are you looking at the installed system being just part of a larger system that has additional temporary components?Is there a reason you can just run a few longer cable runs, they don't have to be exact length, using cable covers or protectors/ramps? You might even be able to rent these as needed.
