iNuke Boom

Re: iNuke Boom

30 grand for a Behringer?

Bet I could build a better one cheaper and have enough money left over for a trailer to put it in!

Re: iNuke Boom

According to the article, it contains: "two custom-built, 18-inch subwoofers for thumping bass, four neodymium mid-range drivers, and two titanium compression drivers "

30K for what is the equivalent of a double 18 sub and two tops, with behringer amplification & dsp.

WOW.

Apparently they have already sold a few. Who are these people, because I've got a few quality products that I'd like to sell them.......

Re: iNuke Boom

"Inside this beast lie two custom-built, 18-inch subwoofers for thumping bass, four neodymium mid-range drivers, and two titanium compression drivers for highs. Such intense audio creates commensurate vibrations, and the Boom performs quite well as a massage table if you lay on top."

Since when does 2x 18" 4x mids and 2x hf drivers equal 10,000 watts? Phony marketing stats are going full tilt boogie here.

If you are playing the "peak watts" game, then it is pretty easy to get to 10Kw.

If you say 2200 watts/18" then that is 550 continuous.

That leaves 1200 peak watts for the mids and highs-divided by 2 for stereo and you have 600 watts peak or 150 continuous per channel.

And it probably has only a single edison plug for power.

1 - IPOD dock
1 - I-Tech 6K and 1 - I-Tech 4K.
2 SRX718 and 2 SRX722's
Some lumber and a Hans Ringer logo and light it up

(You would have quite a bit of change left over to build the box around them with $30K to start from!)

I maintain that any use of 'peak' power in relation to audio transducers is simply a method of defrauding the end users. Unless there is a time duration defined, peak means instantaneous and therefore no energy is transferred, therefore no work is done. In this event any load could be given an infinite peak power rating.

First of all you have to remember the company we are talking about-and the main target audience/buyer. mo watts is mo better. Just go look at the typical consumer hifi or car market if you want lots of examples of "defrauding". It is not so much that they are lying-but rather that they are not holding to the same standards as others.

Of course you can also look at some of the biggest players in our industry and when you start to look at the spec sheets and graphs close-you will see all kinds of instances in where the specs are stretched 6dB or more. I know several cases of "top of the line gear" that the specs are 15dB off (in the stretched way). But because they are "respected" they get a "free pass". ANd it is not so much that they are directly "lying", but rather that they are stating an incomplete/inaccurate/unusable truth. At least in what the average person would think of the specs as being.

There is also NOT a infinate power that can be delivered to a loudspeaker-ieven if it is 1 cycle long. There is the problem of overexcursion. 1/2 cycle of a really high signal can cause the driver to jump out of the gap and destroy itself on the way back down. I've seen this happen lots of times.
