What are your opinions on the iPad 2? If you haven't heard yet, Apple just released information on the iPad 2, which is going to be available on March 11th.

New features are...
-33% Thinner & 15% Lighter than the first iPad. It's actually thinner than the iPhone 4.
-Video Mirroring, connect your iPad directly to a TV, and be able to display what you're doing on the iPad at the same time, in 1080p.
-2 Cameras, 1 Front Facing, and one Rear Facing HD Camera
-3 Axis- Gyroscope
-Up to 9 times faster, with much better graphics
-A new cover, that magnetically connects to the iPad itself. Take the front cover off, it unlocks instantly. Put it back on, locks.

Sorry if I sound like I'm trying to advertise the product, which isn't the case. I'm just a fan of all gadgets and electronics. Along with that, I know that some of you use iPads for gigs for remote mixing and such, so I thought I'd post this up on here.

What do you guys think of the product and do you think you'll upgrade to the new one, and also, what are your likes and dislikes about it?

If only people were that generous Phil... haha. I agree that it has a bunch of new features, and nice ones at that. I Probably won't be getting the new one soon either, but it's definitely impressive. Not too impressed with Facetime since I use my iPhone for it as well, I just like being able to use a bigger display. However, I'm interested in what possible Apps in the future for Video Production since it has a Video out port. It'd be cool if you could create live video effects using an app, and have that feed sent out.

In all my life, I have never yet had one reason to use any Apple product. I don't have anything against them, and when people ask me why I don't have an iPod, iPad, iMac or whatever, I answer that whatever I'm using now does what I need, so there's no reason to change.

You should see the looks on people's faces when they bring me an iPod for backing tracks and expect me to operate it; I have absolutely no idea how one works.

Up untill last month I had only owned an iPod and also didn't see any reason to change that. Then, the cell phone companies all started storing the personal private information stored on "smart phones" on their Internet sites when you "synced" or backed up your phone. For years I had a Palm organizer and kept in backed up locally. I had a Windows Mobile based phone last year and could sync it with Outlook on both my desktop and laptop. I hated the phone though. Now it all but impossible to find a phone that will let you back up locally. All the Android phones back up all your private information to Google and we all know how careful they are to keep things private. I, for one, do not want the information on my phone stored on some Internet database. While your phone number may not be in fact private, the fact that it is on my phone IS.
So, last month I got an iPhone4 from Verizon and it nicely syncs with Outlook through iTunes on my desktop. Happy! Oh, and it works so much better than my previous phone for all things too! With it I can make & answer phone calls and look up numbers all one handed.. something I could not do with the HTC Touchpro 2.
Maybe I will get a Macbook next?

Rob, I'm certainly glad Apple products are working well for you.

I just reset my Droid, and in the process, found out that having Google store all your data is optional. In fact, a friend of mine found out the hard way that her contacts were not stored on Google.

Since I don't keep anything confidential on my phone, I don't really mind that Google stores my information for me. It allows me to have all my information synchronized to any place I happen to be: work, home, on the road, in an internet cafe, anywhere.

I used to run email locally on one computer, and leave it on and remote it. Now, if I had to commit to sync anything manually, I think my life would be over....

I do also suspect that far more of our information is accessible to others than we realize, even if we do refuse to use Google or other online services.

And not to ramble, most cases of identity theft are from unshredded papers in your garbage can.

Importing raw video for edits, rendering or authoring? Oh man... I think a real Mac would be a much better tool.

My Nokia e63 hard-wire syncs with my Windoze machine as well as on-line with Google Calendar and email. My 2 year old HTC Touch (ATT) with Win Mobile 6.1 pro also would sync over USB, Bluetooth, or online with the same Google apps.

The HTC was a major piece of shit as a phone, though. Great at being a PDA, Office Mobile worked flawlessly, etc... but try to make a call where Edge network meets 3G and it would 'hunt' between them, finally locking up. It took battery removal to resuscitate it. Never again will I buy an HTC.

I don't own any Apple products, I think their products are great and all, just no need for them. I also don't want Mr Jobs to have me by the balls to use what he feels I need to use (Itunes, Quicktime.....) I would rather see an open format. They keep on talking about all there apps, 65,000 of them, too bad that most of them are games that nobody cares about.

The tablet market is getting interesting.
