Ipad Controlable Media Player?

I have two s-16's in a rack. I'm about to slide an x-32 core in between them. This will enable me to do a lot of gigs without dragging out the "big board" & running foh cabling. I have a rack space open on the rack for a cd/usb media player. I need something that I can control from the ipad, out front sitting at a table. Any suggestions?

Re: Ipad Controlable Media Player?

Sounds to me like some kind of media server would better suit your needs. You could probably set up a mac mini to do just that and use the ipad to stream content from it.

Re: Ipad Controlable Media Player?

Airport express has audio out. You can airplay from the iPad to the express. Keep the express in the rack. I think you could also do this with an apple tv, but you'd have to convert the audio out of the hdmi or optical ports to analog.

You want one of these:
Denon DN-700C Network Media Player / CD Player

Re: Ipad Controlable Media Player?

This will be a beautiful thing. Six rack spaces. No FOH wiring, yet 32 mic channels + media player. Light weight & compact. Going to be uber handy.....

You've got to have a router in there anyway, why not make it do a little bit of work too?

How to Make an Inexpensive Wi-Fi Radio With an Asus Router and USB Sound Card

This should work on any router that supports dd-wrt firmware and has a usb port. You can put a small hub in the usb port to give you space for a usb soundcard, and a thumbdrive full of mp3's.

More info here: MightyOhm » Blog Archive » Building a Wifi Radio – Part 1, Introduction

This lets you serve mp3's right off the router, and control it with your ipad or most any smartphone or computer.

Hello

Is it actually possible to control both X32-core and Denon via same router with one or two iPads - or are you going to have two routers and two iPads or iPad and smartphone ?

I am asking just for curiosity - the thing is too pricey for my jobs - but fascinating indeed.

Of course, you can have millions of devices on the same network, 16777216 to be precise, and it is actually not very hard to extend it to 429 million using the full ip4 address range. There are very few limitations except the bandwidth and the amount of devices that you can connect wirelessly. As far as wired devices go, you naturally need enough routers to get enough physical ports.

Re: Ipad Controlable Media Player?

At the moment I'm using foobar2000 on a win7 netbook which can be remote controlled by monkeymote from the ipad. There are also apps out there for android to control foobar2000.

Hello again

This goes to show how little I know about networking. There should be a book for ip-dummies ( like me ) that explains in detail how to set up networks - not just stating things like "after having set your so and so do this and that" but rather assuming that the dummy ( ME !!! ) does NOT know anything. 8O~8-O~

I was thinking, that the network for X32 does not allow other stuff to be operated via same router. But since you say it is doable - and I take your word for it - then that means for us small-scale players, that we could run our stage lightning with same iPad as X32 - what kind of DMX-interfaces are available for that?

EDIT - quick Google search revealed Enttec, ArtNet and many others - they are fairly low cost - now for some more Google for DMX-control fr iPad

But more than the DMX-controller - I could definitely use a copy of "Networking for Dummies" or "Netzwerkbau für Dumköpfen"

Re: Ipad Controlable Media Player?

TIM THANKS A LOT

I order me one

Dummy

My former next door neighbor is an IT guy but mostly does on-site repairs and equipment installation for a contracting firm. He's the one that suggested the book to me a few years ago when I came to him with networking questions. I also bought a copy of Peter Norton's "Complete Guide to Networking" for a more formal and less "dummied" approach once I got familiar with the topic. The Norton book is from 1999, but TCP/IP networking hasn't changed that much in terms of our comparatively small audio control networks.

Re: Ipad Controlable Media Player?

I went ahead & ordered the Denon player. $pendy, but for a lot of the gigging I do it will be an ideal package with the s-16's & the Core....

Re: Ipad Controlable Media Player?

Thing is, I do some "local idol contest's" & such where the contestants bring there songs on cd's or thumb drives. At times speed will be an issue & this will help with that....
