For audio , the iPad is a toy more than anything. It is great for web surfing and entertainment while traveling. Also for writting posts on the sound forums.

with apps for Bandmanager, Smaart, Remote mixing and such coming available, and with the feature set on the Ipad, elaborate on the toy reference. Do you feel a laptop is the better choice?

iPad doesn't replace laptop, it augments it.
I use my iPad mostly to remote desktop to my laptop so that I can make adjustments in installed systems while running around, or if my laptop is setup for smaart and can't be moved.
it also solves the problem when DSPs don't have ethernet, I can still connect locally, throw up my router and take the ipad with me. then I also have it in my hand as a music source.
the only time I bring the iPad without laptop is if I'm traveliing and know that I'll just be needing email or surfing the web.
the ipad isn't just a toy, but without a host computer it's pretty much just an iphone with a bigger screen.
