I need to split an iTech HD preset, use their settings for VT4886 x3 80Hz on one side, but non-JBL subs on the other channel, which I need access to XO and EQ for. All the presets I can find are totally locked down on both channels. How can I erase the preset from just one of the two amp channels?

Re: iTech HD Presets

I think you will have to make your own preset. They locked them out so that there is consistency between all there rigs out in the field.

You can't make your own Vertec V4 preset; that's kind of the point of having factory-provided presets to begin with.

I have word in to the Harman rep, who is checking with JBL and Crown, because he knows it's been done before.

The presets lock out the crossover and output EQ for both channels no matter what it seems- and the preset XML is encrypted, so you can't just copy the settings over.

I think Bennett would rather 'flatten' the VT4883 output coming off the Vertec preset, and then apply his own EQ, than make a whole new tuning for the VT4886s.

Re: iTech HD Presets

I was just playing around in SA with it. It also locks out the delay. Some stuff can still be changed, like the limiters even though it is "blued" out.

Blue means the block is being used or turned on- not disabled.

The output delay is locked out, but the input delay isn't.

The crossover is fixed, but the bandpass gain isn't, and there are some crossover functions available in the input EQ section, so Bennett could probably create a pseudo-inverse sub curve to arrive at flat, and then use the rest of the EQ to make his own. Certainly not easy or convenient, but possible, and certainly more feasible than building a VT4886 preset from scratch.

He did mention that he had two amps available. I'd probably recommend running one amp for the 86s and the other for subs; obviously a really long speaker cable would have to run to the other side of the stage, but I think a dB of loss is worth the programming ease.

Re: iTech HD Presets

The 4886s sound great and are well behaved, building a preset from scratch for them would be a waste of time. The available cable inventory will not allow running a cable cross stage... This is a benefit dinner so the cross stage distance is no problem but the available cable path is over 100'.

I managed to get where I needed to be using the available EQ on the 4883/4886 preset but it would have been nice to have access to the HPF on the 4886s and the whole XO on the sub outputs.
