Have a Small SRX rig 2 728s and 2 715s powered by QSC plx 3002 and 3004s. Have an inquiry for a Motown style band in a 100'x60' tent looking for a budget rig. Wondering if this will be enough to cover. I know I know if you have to ask its not enough. I have mostly used this indoors and it was pretty overkill for those events. Outdoor stuff I have used it for was a more concert on the green style and did great there but was lower volumes and utilizing some older EAW 253HR speakers. Any opinions appreciated.

Re: JBL rig enough for gig question

Probably just about enough. I personally would suggest a wee bit more for spare headroom, but since you probably don't need spare headroom, I think you'll be fine. Just prepare your anus for the tent.

Re: JBL rig enough for gig question

Thanks for feedback guys. They are anticipating around 500 in attendance. Do you all think it would be worth it to cluster the subs and tripod mount the speakers? I have some global truss 132s that could safely get the tops up. The specs claim they have pole mounts but I don't remember seeing them. Will have to double check. Also I could offer the EAw cabs as an option but the loudness specs look close between them and the 715s. Hard to believe given the size and although the JBLs look to take three times the power.

Re: JBL rig enough for gig question

If you can properly fly the tops that would be an advantage in being able to point them down a bit. Sound bounces around really strangely in a tent. The more direct sound you can hit people with the better.

Re: JBL rig enough for gig question

The JBLs should be fine. Seems like most tents are a high frequency nightmare. As suggested, get them up and point them down. The715's have a dual position pole cup with 10deg down tilt in the front socket.

Re: JBL rig enough for gig question

1. How did you have the speakers powered? For a crowd of 500, you should have plenty of speaker there.

2. How does the tent not have a center pole? That's one of those things I usually hate about tents. That and the horrible acoustics that always seem to go along with tents. The ninth circle of hell is a pretty accurate description.

It's a wide tent, two rows of "center" poles.

Re: JBL rig enough for gig question

Yeah that might have been a downfall for sure. We set up a couple prx down low as for front fills but I think the tops are 70deg so we prob fell short there. Looking for another pair or the 715s to do 2 a side. Have to find a safe way to fly 2 a side. Thinking the Global Truss 132s will not be hefty enough to do 2 of these safely.
