Looking at the date yesterday I noticed it was 5 years ago I donated a kidney to my brother. I've notice no difference and for the most part don't even think about it now.
Should anyone find themselves in the same situation as myself I just wanted to say I've had a positive experience with my donation.
Both my brother and myself are in good condition.

Hello Douglas,

Brother or not, that was a kind and extremely generous gift. Glad to hear that you're both doing well.

Cheers,
Hammer

Re: Kidney Donation

Douglas,

It was a great thing that you did. My brother(RIP, of unrelated issues) was born with only one kidney, so me and my family were always prepared for that possibility. He never noticed any problems related to only having a single kidney.

I also had a good friend who was a severe diabetic, suffered renal failure and got a kidney from his brother. Very successful procedure. Issues arose after the doctors insisted he get a pancreas, unrelated to the the kidney transplant.

Best regards,

John

Awesome story!! Thanks for making a difference.

I'd be one of those people on the receiving end. Different medical issue, but life-saving nonetheless.

John;

Odd that you mentioned that. My brother was a severe diabetic as well and was put in line for a pancreas. This transplant has caused issues for him. Sometimes it works. Other times not. That an a hospital staff infection that he picked up durning the transplant of the pancreas. With the anti-rejection drugs he is on its tough to catch anything. Even a cold. We shared 5 out of 6 major DNA markers so they are slowly lowering the drugs and it has been an improvement for him.
Still all in all a much better than the life he was facing without a kidney donation.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
