Line-X on QSC K-series?

Hey all, my apologies if this may have been covered in the past, but I couldn't unearth any.

Has anyone considered coating their K-series speakers with Line-x or equivalent to help deal with the inevitable scuffing? Is this even a remotely good idea, or should I just suck it up and deal with the weight and cost of the KW's?

Hey Rafi,
get Undercover or EWI cases for your speakers.
the K8s are cheap enough, that they're generally paid for with only 12-15 rentals in our market.

stop by my shop if you want to check out some case ideas

Re: Line-X on QSC K-series?

Thank you all for the advice regarding cases/covers. I have them already, however, wear and tear on the exterior is kind of inevitable with the range of gigs I do. Were the speakers made of wood, I'd be repainting them without a thought. However, I know less about painting/coating plastic and hence the question about whether or not using Line-X is even an option.

Speaking with no experience I would say that doesn't seem like a good idea. I cant imagine the line-x adhering and looking well on a plastic cabinet.
You might be the first to try this.

You will destroy any resale value. Sell the k series and get something appropriate for your use.

Rafi,

With the proper surface prep (rough sanding), Line X sticks to plastic, there are many examples on the internet.

There are also spray can plastic primer coatings available at regular hardware stores that allow most paints to stick, so you can do the touch up yourself as needed. I have used the stuff on various plastic items (like trash cans needing to fit a decor) and it has worked OK.

As far as Line X or a re-paint "destroying any resale value", most buyers would prefer fresh paint to scuffed plastic.

I would just spend the money on soft-padded covers if you are handling the speakers or renting them to users. I would only look at road cases, if the speakers are being handled by loaded getting paid nothing and could careless what the gear is as long as its on the truck.

Re: Line-X on QSC K-series?

I appreciate the advice on cases, but for the sake of zooming in on the information I'm trying to gather, assume in this case that the speakers are already being transported in roadcases and the scuffing is already present. My thought behind Line-X is to help cover up the existing blemishes and help prevent further cosmetic damage that might make them unsightly in certain environments.
