Hi all - the startup I'm part of needs to up our game for trade shows; currently they're shipping products to hotels, convention centers in large cardboard boxes. While it works, we need a road case that we can roll into shows where we are allowed to, but also can stay in the booth (usually 10x10) and then have a freight sticker slapped on it to be returned back.

I had looked at these:
http://www.roadcasesusa.com/jumbo-48x22-ata-cable-trunk-extra-high-3-8-ply-w-wheels/

And this is the size we need - still manageable by one person. 3/8" seems good for freight shipping, but I'm all ears. My previous case experience has been with Audiopile's EWI cases, which I like, but I'm not sure how well they'd hold up to freight shipping from show to show.

Would get this with foam lining as we're usually also shipping our robots (makewonder.com) to the show.

If possible, would like to know if there are options in N. California - we're in San Mateo, and could drive 50+ miles if needed to get it or they can deliver to us. Looking to buy this week or next as we have a show in NY next Saturday... Thanks!

Re: Local SF Case Company?

Ned, if you can get a custom case from any reputable supplier in less than 4 weeks in the middle of tour season, I want to know who they are.

The majority of the big-name case builders are in the LA area - Anvil, Blackhurst, A&S, Jan-Al, etc. The only one specifically that I know of up in the Bay Area is Cal Cases (http://www.calcases.com). I think they're somewhere down Hayward/Fremont area. They're not cheap, but we had lots of them doing trade show duty protecting everything from flat panel displays and iMacs to shock racks full of DSP units and mixing consoles. They hold up well to general freight and freight forwarders (i.e - Rock-It Cargo). It's like any other custom case builder - don't expect EWI prices by any stretch, but the work is solid and they'll build exactly what you want.

Re: Local SF Case Company?

Brian - thanks for the reply and thx for the reminder on tour season - didn't even think of that.

I sent an email to Cal Cases and will also talk to Jan-Al, who made cases for my previous company to see what they can do. We may be forced to ship our next show again in cardboard, but we'll have enough trade shows that making the investment is worth it.

And totally understand I'm not expecting EWI prices - but hopefully their reliability for freight shipping will be worth the extra cost. I own EWI cases, and I handle them myself -not sure I'd want them shipped by freight repeatedly.
