Looking for Camco Northeast or New England Rep/distributor

Re: Looking for Camco Northeast or New England Rep/distributor

Hi Bill:

Please reply to this thread if you find anybody anywhere in the US that deals with Camco.

I can't even get the Germans to reply to my emails.

I need a Vortex 6 repaired and I'm interested in buying the 200V and V8 models.

Still No luck with Camco! My emails get no replies either! Product support and service are high priorities for me when it comes to looking at gear. So far I cant even get sales help and thats usually where NOBODY "drops the ball". BTW- They are not affiliated with Ashly anymore and have not been for a couple of years (so says my Ashly rep)

Hey Bill:

I got a lead from Camco for a US outlet in Miami:

Audio & Video Solutions

I'm shipping (2) Vortex 6's to them next week, one to repair and convert from 115V to 230V and a second one just for the voltage conversion.

AV Solutions said they sell new Camco's as well.

I'll report back with my service experience.

Hi Langston,

Why are you converting your amps?

Because 120v amps are for girls.

Edit:

In order of personal interest:

1. The racks these Vortex 6 amps are in include a pair of FP14000 208/240V amps. It will be easier to balance the load on breakers to have all amps pulling equally on both lines.

2. Improved reliability 1: Twice the voltage means half the current will be flowing through the switching power supply of the amp. Current is the movement of electrons and the source of heat through friction, which reduces the life of the associated components.

3. Improved reliability 2: I might get a tiny bit more power out of the amps, but in my testing I've noticed significantly less "groaning" (audible vibration) from the power supply of every amp I've ever tested under max continuous loads when fed by 208/240V.

4. Improved reliability 3: Much of the switch mode power supply will be replaced with the conversion to 208/240V. The two amps are six years old, seems like a nice thing. :)

Twice the voltage also means greater inrush currents at startup and, in auto-ranging designs, operation closer to the maximum voltage ratings on components. There is also greater susceptibility to overvoltage events.
