LS9 and StageMix and Studio Manager, issues

My wireless network finally crapped on me; it was limited any ways (off brand purchased in early 2007 for $25). Anyways I am working on setting up the new network and I am stumped with this issue. I can connect to my LS9 with the Laptop/Studio Manager. I can connect to my LS9 with the iPad/Stage Mix.

My issue is that I cannot connect Studio Manager and Stage Mix at the same time to the LS9.
If I connect the Laptop first, and then try the iPad; the connection will “Time out error” on the iPad.
If I connect the iPad first and then try the Laptop; I’ll get a “Following MIDI Ports cannot be opened at this time. Output: LS9” error on the laptop.

Re: LS9 and StageMix and Studio Manager, issues

As I understand it, you cannot connect both Studio Manager and StageMix at the same time to the LS9.
Apparently the new CL consoles allow this, but I have never seen anyone doing it successfully with an LS9.

I don't know enough to know if this would be something that could be addressed in a future firmware/software update, as it would be dead handy for those of us who use the LS9 everyday. I partly feel like if it was as simple as an update, they would have done it by now, but Yamaha isn't always the quickest in getting updates pushed out the door on any regular schedule.

Yamaha has said repeatedly that it will never happen. The networking in the LS9 can only address a single controller. They could theoretically do it by making Studio Manager a server app that StageMix or whatever would talk to, the way that Airfader hosts their Android app, but I guess they'd rather move on to selling CL desks.

It can be done by connecting the computer (running Studio Manager) to the console via MIDI. But you have to route it through Bohm's MIDI Translator Pro so it will talk to the console now and then to keep the connection alive. (I have instructions on the whole deal, but can't find 'em.)
