M7 & Studio Manager

Hi there,

I work with a French band. Usually, we use our own m7. I have about 20 scenes, one per song.
For the next gig to come, we have to use an m7 provided by the organization. Other groups will perform during the evening and each in its own settings.

All my scene are saved on the Yamaha Studio Manager too, but the last time I export scenes to an m7, I completely erased existing ones.

Is there a way that we add our parameters to the next in the console memory?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Re: M7 & Studio Manager

This is certainly possible.

1) Save the current scene on the M7, and back-up everything on the M7 to a memory stick (just in case you mess up).
2) Sync the mixer with Studio Manager.
3) Take studio manager "offline" using the button on the right side of the screen or the menu item on the top of the screen.
4) Insert your USB key into the laptop running Studio Manager.
5) In studio manager - open the scene window (from the windows menu)
6) You will see two columns for lists of scenes. On the right you will see the scenes currently loaded on the M7
7) On the Left you will see an empty column.
8) Above this column you will see "save", and "open" buttons.
9) Click "open" and then find your board file ( you will need to set the file type to .M7C - default is .YSM)*
10) Now you will see your scene list in the column on the Left.
11) Drag your scene from the left column to the right column (onto an empty scene)
12) Re-sync the board with the M7, making sure to sync from PC to Console.
13) Now load your scene, check you output routing and you should be up and running.

*see Andrew's description below, regarding saving the scenes separately before opening them in the studio manager "scene memory" window.

Re: M7 & Studio Manager

Not quite correct, Rick...

The file type would be .M7C not .L9A but I'm sure that's just a typo. The real problem is you cannot open a console "All Data" file in the the Scene Library window. You can only open "Scene" files there.

There's a couple of ways to do this, with and without Studio Manager at the other end.

With:
  1. Save your console setup on the USB stick.
  2. Open up Studio Manager and the M7CL editor and either open the file from your USB drive or connect the console to your computer and sync Console to PC.
  3. In the Editor, open the Scene Memory page.
  4. Drag the 20 Scenes you need from the right window to the left. You can select several at once.
  5. On the top left of that screen, click "SAVE AS..." and save this Scene Memory file with a name that identifies it as a "Scene" file and not an "All Data" file, like MyBand-SCENES.M7C. You can copy that file to your USB stick, but again, make sure you know which file is "All Data" and which is the "Scenes" as they will both have the .M7C extension.
  6. When you get to the other gig, fire up SM and the M7CL editor, connect to the M7CL and sync Console to PC.
  7. Save this setup in the M7CL editor to the computer just in case. This is the current state of the M7CL.
  8. Put your USB key into that computer
  9. Open the Scene Memory page.
  10. Click on OPEN and navigate to to your USB key and the SCENE file you saved previously.
  11. Your Scenes will show up on the left window.
  12. While staying online with the M7CL, drag your scenes to open spaces on the window on the right. Be careful not to overwrite the Scenes that are already on the console.
  13. The Scenes will show up on the M7CL after they transfer.
Without:

I've not done this, but it should work. The above method is the best and I recommend you bring your laptop with SM and the Editor installed and use the above method.
  1. Follow steps 1-5 as above. However, this procedure only works if you know ahead of time what scenes are available on the desk you're going to. You need to put your scenes in the locations on the left side of the screen where they will be going on the console you're going to be using.
  2. When you get to the other gig, put your USB key into the M7CL.
  3. Open the Scene Memory page and find your SCENE file. The "Type" column should show "SCENE" not "ALL" for this file.
  4. Select the SCENE file and open it.
  5. It should load your scenes into the locations you picked earlier. It will overwrite existing scenes on the console if they match, so make the scenes on the console "Read Only" if you want to protect them. "Protect" may not work, they should be "Read Only" (so the scenes to be protected must be in sequence from Scene 1 with no gaps).

Re: M7 & Studio Manager

You're right Andrew, I forgot about that. I always have to open the source file in studio manager, and strip the scenes out. Thanks. I just wrote up those instructions from memory.
